A film by Jaka Terpinc, Gregor Bauman.
In the early 1980’s punk rock hit hard the socialist republic of Slovenia! The loud and eccentric scene consisted of several bands, most of them came from the capital of Ljubljana and most of them disbanded in a few years, leaving behind a few recorded tracks.
This is not the story of one of them: in a remote border town of Metlika five guys started a poetic punk-rock journey that took them to the heights of former Yugoslavia’s alternative music scene, right before the federal country began to shatter in flames.
The band remained true to their ideas and active until today, leaving a four decade long legacy of genuine punk’n’roll, that earned them a cult status on the edge, despite a very humble media following.
The band’s story is told from their own perspective and commented on by their local contemporaries, as well as some prominent voices from the Yugoslav scene. Their testimony provides surprising insights into the band’s creation and the whole historical background.
The film shows a good amount of concert footage from the band’s 40 year-history, as well as newly recorded live performance.
In a nutshell, 100 dB features an hour of genuine punk’n’roll, accompanied with an inspiring story, which begins in a very familiar way. There was a couple of teenagers from the same neighborhood who were searching for their voice and just wanted to play guitars and played them loud. Underline: the film narrates a small story about a large band from a small town, which in the forty years of its career successfully bypassed all trends and overcame the tragic history of the country in which it was born in the year that Marshal Tito died.
